Encounter

Notice never granted.

One moment
I’m one thing.

Now—

we’re something else.

Peering in,
not-I gazes out.

Am I
the reflection?

I was me.

Now we’re you,

added to
all that came before.

I want
to be like you.

Familiar.

Attained,
I diverge,

sacrificing you
to become myself.

Yet a mark
remains still,

beneath the skin.

I ebb and flow,

imprinted
unbeknown.

Pen against paper.
Paper against pen.

Each leaves
the other marked—

healing
or wound.

We depart,

but never entirely.

You are in me.

I am somewhere
in you.
